LOCAL AREA

The historic market town of Holmfirth is the main centre within the stunning Holme Valley. You're just on the edge of both the Peak District National Park and the Yorkshire Pennines here in this walking hotspot.

Fondly remembered as the town appearing in the celebrated TV series 'Last of the Summer Wine' which ran for over 30 years. Holmfirth's weavers' cottages, striking surrounding moorland and historic mills will be a familiar sight to lovers of Summer Wine country.

The textile industry was once strong in the Holme Valley with many of the weavers playing leading roles in the Chartist uprisings of the mid-19th century. Today Holmfirth has a picture-postcard village feel centred around the main Victoria Square. A centre for festivals and events, Holmfirth hosts its annual Folk Festival in May with other events including the new Holmfirth Arts Festival in June and the Holmfirth Music Festival in October.

Holmfirth and nearby Honley serve as perfect walking bases for pushing out into the surrounding sublime Holme Valley. A choice of walking paths move out from Holmfirth and Honley taking in smaller historic settlements in the Holme Valley area like Hepworth and Holme. Holmfirth boasts a fine selection of tearooms and country pubs serving up Yorkshire real ale and fine homemade food.
